CINCINNATI (AP) — A Cincinnati man could face the death penalty after a jury took less than a day to convict him of aggravated murder in the slaying of a 79-year-old man who had hired him to paint his house.
Forty-nine-year-old Daniel Davis testified in a Cincinnati courtroom on Wednesday that heroin had ruined his life but said he did not beat, strangle and stab John Lauck to death in August 2012, the Cincinnati Enquirer (http://cin.ci/1o7ASAT ) reported. Hamilton County prosecutors want jurors to recommend that a judge sentence Davis to death.
A sentencing hearing is scheduled for Sept. 11.
Davis testified that he lied to police when he denied having gone to Lauck's Cincinnati home the day before Lauck's body was found. He said he went there to borrow money to buy heroin.
