NEWARK, Del. (AP) — The University of Delaware says a man is in custody after he tried to rob a student of her computer and was then chased by the victim and bystanders.

The university says the student was sitting on a bench in front of the dorm Harter Hall on Friday when a man pushed her to the ground, grabbed her laptop and ran away. The university says the victim and several bystanders chased the man and he stopped and threw the computer at the victim. A Newark police officer who was in the area took the suspect into custody.

The suspect was identified as 25-year-old Carlton Kilson of Elsmere. He is not affiliated with the school. He faces robbery and other charges.

Kilson did not appear to have a listed telephone number.
