KIEV, Ukraine (AP) — The head of Ukraine's national guard says after some early violations, the cease-fire with pro-Russia rebels in the east appears to be taking root. Ukraine, Russia and the Moscow-backed separatists signed the cease-fire deal yesterday. In Donetsk, the largest city controlled by the Russian-backed separatists, the night passed quietly, with no reports of shooting or shelling today.
KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP) — Malaysia's president says proof beyond a doubt is needed that Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 was shot down over Ukraine, especially if there's ever a trial. He says he'll dispatch a team to the crash site before winter to gather physical evidence to prove that it was shot down. All 298 people aboard were killed.
OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Experimental treatments are being considered for a U.S. doctor being treated for Ebola at a special infectious disease isolation unit at the Nebraska Medical center. Doctors for Rick Sacra say one possibility is using blood serum from a patient who has recovered. There are no licensed drugs or vaccines for the disease, but about half a dozen are in development. Sacra was diagnosed in Liberia where he had worked for many years.
ISLAMABAD (AP) — Heavy monsoon rains and flash floods are taking a human toll as they pound areas of India and Pakistan. Officials say 110 people in Pakistan and 86 people in India have died. Forecasters say the severe weather will continue in the coming days and officials worry the death toll may rise.
RICHMOND, Calif. (AP) — A stolen car being followed by police in California hit a commuter bus, which then smashed into a San Francisco Bay area home as a mother and two small children sat inside. The bus missed an infant by a few feet. In the end, 11 people suffered minor injuries. Police arrested a passenger in the stolen car and they're looking for the driver.
