JERUSALEM (AP) — Israeli police say the body of a missing American religious student has been positively identified. The body was found near where seminary student Aharon Sofer disappeared while hiking in Jerusalem last week. Authorities say they don't suspect foul play.
WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama is trying to tone down speculation about military options for deepening crises in the Middle East and Ukraine. Obama says there's no military option in Ukraine. He says he's weighing a military response to the Islamic State group in Syria, but there's no plan yet and there needs to be one. There have been limited strikes against the group in Iraq. Some in the administration are pressing for bolder action.
MILAN (AP) — European Union foreign ministers are talking about their stance on the Ukraine crisis amid pressure to do more. The ministers' meeting today in Milan comes a day after NATO said Russia has already slipped about 1,000 soldiers and much heavy weaponry into Ukraine. The United States and the EU have imposed sanctions against Russian officials and the country's financial industry.
DAKAR, Senegal (AP) — The World Health Organization is presenting more evidence of a worsening Ebola crisis. WHO says the past week has seen the highest increase of Ebola cases since the outbreak began. The U.N. health agency says more than 500 cases were recorded over the past week.
BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — Colleges and universities may be implementing additional health checks on foreign students from West Africa because of the Ebola outbreak there. Administrators are trying to insulate their campuses from the worst Ebola outbreak in history. U.S. authorities are on alert but caution against undue alarm. Ebola is transmitted by contact with body fluids of a sick person.
