KEARNS, Utah (AP) — Police say a newborn baby is in extremely critical condition after his mother left him in a trash can near her home in Kearns, Utah. Unified Police say a neighbor found the baby this morning. Police say the 24-year-old mother was detained when she returned to the scene after the child was taken to a hospital.

OGDEN, Utah (AP) — Health officials say at least 45 people became ill in May, June and July after consuming raw milk products from a Weber County dairy. The Utah Department of Health says the illness are linked to the Ropelato Dairy, where raw milk samples tested positive for a bacteria. The dairy's license to sell unpasteurized milk was suspended on Aug. 4.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The federal government is asking for people to weigh in on whether it should temporarily ban daredevil rope swinging and other activities from iconic arches in Moab. The Bureau of Land Management says rope swings at Corona Arch and Gemini Bridges may be disturbing other visitors. Two people died in swinging accidents last year.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The Utah Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control is revising the way it grants permits for special events after an Oktoberfest celebration was nearly derailed this year. State liquor commissioners cited a stricter interpretation of state law when they considered withholding the Oktoberfest permit. The agency is seeking public comment on the rules.
