NAPA, Calif. (AP) — Injuries are being reported after a large earthquake rolled through California's wine country early today, damaging some buildings and knocking out power to thousands. The extent of the damage isn't clear but a Napa fire captain says the shaking has caused fires, collapses and injuries. Another Napa fire official says two major injuries have been reported, and hospitals have been very busy with moderate injuries. The U.S. Geological Survey says the 6.0-magnitude quake was centered about 6 miles southwest of Napa.

REYKJAVIK, Iceland (AP) — Two earthquakes above magnitude 5 have shaken a volcano beneath a glacier in Iceland, but scientists now say the volcano hasn't yet begun to erupt. Word that an eruption had begun prompted Iceland to raise its aviation alert level yesterday. Today the alert was lowered from red to orange, indicating "increased potential of eruption." And a no-fly zone around the volcano has been lifted.

BEIRUT (AP) — Activists say Islamic State fighters have broken through the defenses of a major military air base in northeastern Syria and seized control of at least part of the facility. The air base is the last government-held outpost in an area dominated by the extremist group. It's one of the most significant government military facilities in the area, containing several warplane squadrons, helicopters, tanks, artillery and ammunition.

BAGHDAD (AP) — Iran says it sees no need to send fighters to help the Iraqi government battle Islamic State extremists. At a press conference in Baghdad today, Iran's foreign minister said Iraqis are "very capable" of fighting the militants themselves. An offensive by the Islamic State group across northern and western Iraq has plunged the country into its biggest crisis since the U.S. military pulled out in 2011.

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — Iran's Revolutionary Guards say they have shot down an Israeli drone as it approached an Iranian nuclear site. The Guards issued a statement on their website saying their forces fired a missile at the drone as it neared its uranium enrichment facility in Natanz about 185 miles south of Tehran.
