ABUJA, Nigeria (AP) — Nigeria's health minister says the country has confirmed two new Ebola cases, the first two to have spread beyond those who had direct contact with a Liberian-American man who died of Ebola last month in Nigeria. The health minister says the two new cases are spouses of people who treated Patrick Sawyer. Both of those caregivers have died.

ROCHESTER, N.H. (AP) — The parents of slain American journalist James Foley say they regarded an email they received from his captors last week as a hopeful sign they could negotiate with Islamic militants. Militants from the group Islamic State had demanded $132.5 million from his parents and political concessions from Washington. Authorities say neither obliged. The militants showed Foley's beheading in a video released Tuesday. Foley's parents tell NBC's "Today" that they had received several emails from their son's captors.

GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip (AP) — Hamas media say masked gunmen have killed seven suspected informants for Israel near a Gaza City mosque today. Earlier in the day, Hamas said it killed 11 "informants" by firing squad in Gaza City's police headquarters. The killings come a day after Israel killed three top Hamas military commanders in an airstrike on a house in southern Gaza.

URALO-KAVKAZ, Ukraine (AP) — The head of Ukraine's Security Service says Russia's sending a massive aid convoy into eastern Ukraine without Kiev's permission is a "direct invasion." Russia today sent the convoy of 34 trucks into Luhansk, where shelling has been going on for weeks. Russia said its patience had worn out after a week of delays from the Ukrainian government. The Red Cross had planned to escort the convoy, but said it didn't have enough security guarantees.

FERGUSON, Mo. (AP) — For a third night in Ferguson, Missouri, the streets were relatively quiet. The National Guard has been ordered to pull out of the St. Louis suburb, where a white police officer shot to death an unarmed black 18-year-old. Police say last night there were seven arrests, mainly for people who refused the leave the protest area.
