ETTRICK, Va. (AP) — Police are investigating a shooting near Virginia State University.

School officials say the shooting happened about 3:30 a.m. One person was shot in a leg, but school officials say the 18-year-old victim was not a student. The shooting happened off campus and the victim was taken to a hospital.

Chesterfield County police are investigating the incident.

The university had told students to shelter in place following the shooting and limited access to the school. The school returned to normal operations about 7 a.m.
