BOISE, Idaho (AP) — The Idaho Supreme Court has upheld a lower court ruling that found a Boy Scout group has the authority to sell or trade its camp on Lake Coeur d'Alene. Opponents argued the land was donated to the Scouts in 1929 with the condition that it would always be used as a Scout camp. The council's attorneys argued the deed contained no such restrictions and a District Court judge agreed.
YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK, Wyo. (AP) — An 8-year-old girl has died after falling about 550 feet while hiking in Yellowstone National Park. The National Park Service has identified the victim as Zahra Allahyari (ZEHR'-ah AHL'-lah-yahr-ee) of Poway, California. The incident remains under investigation.
MOSCOW, Idaho (AP) — A new building to be constructed at the University of Idaho is designed to help spark new ideas, according to professor Holly Wichman. The $49 million building is called the Integrated Research and Innovation Center. Wichman says she believes interdisciplinary research will lead to more innovative thinking and new ideas. The Lewiston Tribune reports the groundbreaking ceremony for the 69,000-square-foot building will be Friday morning.
CALDWELL, Idaho (AP) — An early-morning fire badly damaged a Caldwell residence, injured a girl and killed the family's dog. Fire crews say all five people in the house were able to escape. One girl told first responders she awakened to flames at her feet. She was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Officials did not release her age or describe her injuries.
