LAS VEGAS (AP) — A Las Vegas man says a typo on health insurance bought through Nevada's insurance exchange has him facing more than $1 million in medical bills. Kynell Smith tells the Las Vegas Review-Journal that the year of his wife's birth was incorrect, leading to the big bill after their daughter was born five weeks prematurely. An exchange spokesman says they're working to resolve the case.
CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — A 28-year-old man has been sentenced to 20 years to life in prison for what prosecutors call the road-rage death of a teenager in Carson City. Leonardo Cardoza will have to serve at least 29 years before he's eligible for parole. In March, he was convicted of first-degree murder in the January 2013 death of 19-year-old Desiree Bragg.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — A flash fire at a cafe at the Palazzo resort hotel-casino on the Las Vegas Strip burned one man. Firefighters say automatic fire extinguishers quickly doused the flames and shut off a malfunctioning gas line after the fire broke out this morning at the Grand Lux Cafe. The injured man was taken to University Medical Center in Las Vegas with first- and second-degree burns.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — A construction error will delay completion of a $99 million air traffic control tower at McCarran International Airport. The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports that a chemical to prevent a toxic fungus was improperly applied in ductwork, walls and subfloors. The tower is now expected to be complete in 2017.
