NEW YORK (AP) — A therapy dog who provided comfort to Staten Island hospital patients for a decade has died.

The Staten Island Advance (http://bit.ly/1mpA5dN ) says that Sambro, a lab, died Tuesday at the age of 13.

His specialties included helping patients and their families at Staten Island University Hospital.

He also provided solace at annual 9/11 memorial services.

And he was popular among children at Camp Good Grief who were working to overcome personal tragedies.

At the dog's "retirement" party in December, hospital Executive Director Donna Proske referred to Sambro and his owner, Dennis Nelson, as the "dynamic duo."
