BURNEY, Calif. (AP) — Authorities in California say eight homes have been destroyed by a wildfire that has nearly quadrupled in size over the weekend. The U.S. Forest Service says the fire in and around Lassen National Forest near the town of Burney has burned 36 square miles as of this morning, up from 11 square miles yesterday. A small long-term care hospital is being evacuated as a precaution. Residents of three small neighboring communities were previously ordered to evacuate.

BEIJING (AP) — China's Xinhua (shihn-wah) News Agency says an earthquake has toppled thousands of homes in Yunnan province, killing at least 367 people and injuring more than 1,800. The U.S. Geological Survey says the quake registered magnitude-6.1.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The United States is denouncing an attack that killed 10 people who had sought refuge in a U.N. school in Gaza. The State Department called the shelling "disgraceful," saying it had been designated a protected location. The U.S. and the U.N. are calling for an investigation.

MONROVIA, Liberia (AP) — Liberian officials say an American woman sick with Ebola soon will leave the West African country and arrive in the United States early Tuesday. Nancy Writebol is a missionary nurse who had been treating Ebola patients while working in a Liberian hospital. She'll be taken to Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, where American doctor Kent Brantly is also being treated.

NEW YORK (AP) — Electronic tablets are making their debut on NFL sidelines during today's Hall of Fame game between the Buffalo Bills and New York Giants. The devices will be used by players and coaches to view aerial photos of previous plays, replacing images that were transmitted to a printer on the sideline. The tablets can be used solely to view the photos and will not have Internet access of replays of previous plays.
