CHUBBUCK, Idaho (AP) — A 5-year-old girl is dead after police say another 5-year-old accidentally shot her at a home in Chubbock, in eastern Idaho. Police said today that adults were in the home at the time of the shooting yesterday afternoon but were in a different room. Investigators have not released the type of gun involved or said how the children got access to it. No names or other details have been released.

CALDWELL, Idaho (AP) — Police in southwest Idaho say a 39-year-old man reported being shot by a stranded driver this morning after he stopped to help. The man reported the shooting north of Caldwell occurred at about 2 a.m. when he stopped to assist a person in a silver truck. Canyon County deputies say the man is hospitalized in stable condition. Police say they're looking for a suspect.

IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (AP) — Jefferson County deputies in southeast Idaho say an explosive device severed a 14-year-old boy's left hand and injured another 14-year-old after they found the object and picked it up. Sheriff Blair Olsen tells KIFI-TV the boys found the device last night behind a granary. Both were taken to a hospital in Idaho Falls and one was transferred to Primary Children's Hospital in Salt Lake City.

BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Idaho Republicans are poised to elect a new party leader after spending months entrenched in political infighting over who should have control of the state's GOP. The state central committee, which serves as the Republican Party's governing body, will meet Saturday in Boise to vote on new party officers, including a party chairman.
