RENO, Nev. (AP) — About 20 activists protested outside a Reno museum the serving of duck and goose liver pate in a public building. Billy Howard of the group called Foie Gras Free Reno says activists were upset a company rented the Wilbur D. May Museum and offered meals that included a foie gras (fwah-GRAH') creme brulee dessert. The sale and manufacture of foie gras is legal in Nevada.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — A 32-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of robbing the Bellagio hotel-casino on the Las Vegas Strip. Jesse Jones was booked yesterday into the Clark County jail after being arrested by police at a Las Vegas resort on Saturday night. He's accused of robbing a teller at gunpoint Friday night.
RENO, Nev. (AP) — About 30 Charles Russell works fetched millions of dollars at auction in Reno, with one painting symbolizing the railroad's effect on American Indians drawing $1.9 million and another depicting a Native American chief selling for $1.1 million. Auction organizer Mike Overby says Russell artwork is highly sought after and commanded from $25,000 for small sketches to the $1.9 million for a 1924 water color.
SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. (AP) — The drought is taking a toll on boating and rafting around Lake Tahoe. Larry Boerner says his paddlewheeler Tahoe Gal can offer sightseeing cruises when the lake is a foot below its natural rim, but operations would prove difficult if levels fall beyond that. Starting today, the Sand Harbor boat ramp on Tahoe's northeast shore also will be closed for the season.
