INKSTER, Mich. (AP) — A judge says an ex-convict accused of fatally shooting a 2-year-old girl in front of her father in suburban Detroit should have been behind bars at the time.
Raymone Jackson was arraigned Wednesday on a first-degree murder charge.
Authorities say the 25-year-old man shot KaMiya Gross in the head in Inkster on July 1, then wounded KaMiya's father and a 13-year-old girl. They say the attack was in retaliation for another shooting.
Wayne County Circuit Judge David Groner said Jackson was sentenced to 11 months in jail last September while already on parole in a 2010 drug conviction. He questioned why Jackson was released from jail in March.
Corrections spokesman Russ Marlan told the Detroit Free Press the state couldn't hold Jackson past June 25, the end of his parole.
