CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — A federal judge has refused to reduce a $2,500 fine against a man who chained himself to a concrete-filled drum to protest the slaughter of bison from Yellowstone National Park. Comfrey Jacobs was arrested in March after blocking the road to the Stephens Creek corrals. Park officials were holding bison in the corrals, near the park border in Montana.

BOISE, Idaho (AP) — A public defender is warning lawmakers that new standards for his profession could lead to lawsuits. Ada County Public Defender Alan Trimming told a committee looking at public defender reforms that if the attorneys don't meet the standards, it could be a "launch pad for litigation." Legal experts have repeatedly warned that Idaho's patchwork public defense system is unconstitutional.

BUHL, Idaho (AP) — Police say a Utah authorities have arrested Buhl man accused of shooting at officers responding to a domestic disturbance, injuring one officer. Police say Victor Soria fired from inside a home when a Buhl police officer and Twin Falls County sheriff's deputy arrived early today. The Buhl officer was treated and released for an injury to his buttocks.

BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Speed limits on rural sections of interstates in southern Idaho will go up to 80 mph starting tomorrow. That's an increase from 75 mph on rural sections of Interstates 15, 84 and 86. Speed limits for trucks will increase to 70 mph. Highway officials say speed limits on interstates in urban areas will remain unchanged at 65 mph.
