CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) — An Oregon State University economics professor also plays a mean fiddle.
The Corvallis Gazette-Times reports (http://is.gd/cQ6LV8 ) that Starr McMullen won the National Senior Fiddle Championship at a contest in Idaho last month, and she has several other state and regional fiddle titles to her credit.
McMullen told the newspaper she has played violin throughout her life and began to play in the traditional fiddle style after taking a workshop more than 25 years ago. She says playing the fiddle relieves stress.
Away from the fiddle, she's known for her research that applies microeconomics to transportation issues and for serving on the governor's task force of economic advisers.
