ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (AP) — The rapid disintegration of Atlantic City's casino market might be an early indicator of what could happen in other parts of the country that have too many casinos and too few gamblers. In the 36th year of casino gambling in New Jersey, Atlantic City started the year with 12 casinos; by mid-September, it could have eight. One expert says Connecticut, Mississippi and Pennsylvania could find themselves in similar situations before long because of increasing competition.
BETHLEHEM, Pa. (AP) — One of the fugitives most wanted by Nevada gambling regulators has been arrested at a Pennsylvania casino. The Express-Times reports Jubreal Chahine of Las Vegas was taken into custody Saturday at the Sands Casino Resort in Bethlehem. The Nevada Gaming Control Board's website says Chahine faces multiple felony charges for cheating.
RENO, Nev. (AP) — A Utah company's cancellation of an annual fun run in Reno featuring a muddy, foamy obstacle course has left participants out of money in Nevada, Oregon and other states. Registered runners for the 5K Foam Fest set for Aug. 2 in Reno received an email Thursday from Round House Racing saying it was going out of business and the event was canceled. Participants also aren't being offered refunds.
STATELINE, Nev. (AP) — Mark Rypien beat out Jeremy Roenick and Annika Sorenstam to win the weather-delayed American Century Celebrity Golf Championship on Sunday. Rypien took the title for the first time since winning the inaugural event in 1990.
