HOUSTON (AP) — The suburban Houston teenager who survived an attack in which her parents and four younger siblings were killed says she's recovering. Cassidy Stay suffered a skull fracture when a bullet grazed her head. The Houston Chronicle says Cassidy thanked first responders during a gathering in her hometown of Spring.
PASADENA, Calif. (AP) — Authorities say three people have been shot and killed at a home in Pasadena, California, and a suspect is in custody after shooting at police cars. A Pasadena Fire Department spokeswoman says the suspect surrendered and was taken into custody after barricading himself inside the home.
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Truck drivers at the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach have agreed to a cooling-off period following five days of a strike. Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti says he requested the cooling-off period. The city's harbor commission will investigate allegations of poor working conditions and unfair labor practices.
SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — South Korean and Japanese media report North Korea launched two ballistic missiles into the sea on Sunday. It's the latest in a series of test-firings seen as expressions of anger over the North's failure to win talks on receiving outside aid, and over ongoing U.S.-South Korean military drills.
SAN JOSE LAS FLORES, Guatemala (AP) — A 15-year-old Guatemalan boy whose death became a symbol of the perils facing children attempting to illegally cross into the United States was buried in his hometown today. Neighbors filled the small home where Gilberto Francisco Ramos Juarez grew up. The boy's decomposed body was discovered on June 15 in the Rio Grande Valley, not far inside Texas from the border with Mexico.
