LAS VEGAS (AP) — A man who prosecutors say slit two of his co-workers' throats in Henderson in 2010 has been ordered to 37 years to life in prison.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports (http://bit.ly/VUW06b ) 37-year-old Francisco Mata was sentenced Thursday, after being convicted in April of murder and attempted murder.
Prosecutors say Mata lured two co-workers to a neighborhood by telling them they had a tiling job there, then used a box cutter to slash 30-year-old Pedro Ortega-Vivanco's throat while he sat in the passenger seat. He died of his injuries.
Police say Mata then slashed the first man's cousin, 37-year-old Hector Ortega-Gonzalez, while he was jogging outside the vehicle. Ortega-Gonzalez drove away for help and survived, while Mata fled.
Prosecutors say Mata was upset because Ortega-Gonzalez had started dating his estranged wife.
