SOUTH OGDEN, Utah (AP) — Officials have dropped charges related to a failed suicide attempt by a former Boy Scout leader who is in prison after being convicted of sexual exploitation of minors in Cache County. The Salt Lake Tribune reports that Kenneth Prince was charged with reckless endangerment after he tried to kill himself by ingesting mercury. It happened the day after he was arrested in September.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A man accused of killing four children and two adults in a Houston suburb had run-ins with police when he lived in Logan. Police and court records say 33-year-old Ronald Haskell had several charges dismissed after he was arrested for domestic violence in 2008. Last year, his wife got a protective order against him. They were divorced in February.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A top official from the U.S. Department of Education is coming to Salt Lake City to deliver a graduation speech for an online college based in Utah. The Western Governors University says Undersecretary of Education Ted Mitchell will speak to graduates tomorrow at Energy Solutions Arena in downtown. About 5,500 students are graduating in the summer commencement ceremony.
SANDY, Utah (AP) — Andres Gonzales shot a 9-under 62 in the first round of the Web.com Tour's Utah Championship yesterday. Gonzales has a three-shot lead over Utah's Tony Finau, Skip Kendall, Steve Wheatcroft and Paul Peterson in the tournament at Willow Creek in Sandy. Finau is a local favorite who is playing in his fourth Utah Championship after making his debut as a 16-year-old in 2006.
