SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A man accused of killing four children and two adults in a Houston suburb had run-ins with police when he lived in Logan, Utah. According to police and court records, 33-year-old Ronald Haskell had several charges dismissed after he was arrested for domestic violence in 2008. Last year, his wife got a protective order against him. They were divorced in February.

WEST JORDAN, Utah (AP) — West Jordan police investigating a report of suspicious activity at a shopping center shot a suspect, critically wounding the 31-year-old man. Police say shots were fired as Timothy Peterson attempted to flee. Police haven't said who fired the shots. A second man was also at the scene. No one else was reported injured.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The former girlfriend of a man sentenced to life in prison for killing a Draper police officer last year says that she forgives Timothy Walker for shooting her but not for shooting the officer. Speaking from the Salt Lake County Jail, Traci Vaillancourt told KSL-TV that her relationship with Walker was "a mess" marked by drug use and years of abuse.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Forest Service officials say it cost the agency about $500,000 to deal with a counterculture group's annual gathering in the mountains east of Salt Lake City. Forest Service spokeswoman Kathy Jo Pollock says most of the nearly 8,000 people who were there at the height of the Rainbow Family festival have left. Only the group's clean-up crew remains.
