WEST JORDAN, Utah (AP) — Police say a man was wounded in an officer-involved shooting at a West Jordan shopping center. Sgt. Joe Monson says police responded to a report of suspicious activity at the Jordan Landing shopping complex early this morning. He says a suspect that matched the description of a person officers had been looking for was found, and shots were fired. Officials say the man was taken to the hospital in serious condition with injuries that don't appear to be life-threatening. No officers were hurt.
HYRUM, Utah (AP) — A 14-year-old boy from American Fork has apparently drowned at Hyrum State Park. State parks officials say Tucker Smith was swimming with his friends and cousins last evening when the group decided to cross the reservoir. They say Smith began to struggle when he got about 20 feet from the shore, and went below the surface. Tucker's friends tried to help him, but were unsuccessful.
BRIGHAM CITY, Utah (AP) — Police say a 17-year-old boy who was visiting from California has confessed to accidentally starting a five-alarm fire that burned a historic, abandoned mill in Brigham City. Brigham Police say the boy was bored and started playing with matches when the fire got away from him on June 29. Authorities say the boy is likely to face a misdemeanor reckless burning charge.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Hornets general manager Rich Cho says the team has extended an offer sheet to free agent Gordon Hayward. The deal signed today would pay the small forward $63 million over the next four years. The Jazz have until 11:59 p.m. Sunday to match the offer and retain Hayward. By signing the offer sheet, the sign and trade possibility with the Jazz is no longer an option.
