SPARKS, Nev. (AP) — Sparks police say it appears a man was sitting on railroad tracks before he was fatally hit by a train, although it's unclear why he was there.
The incident was one of two train deaths in northern Nevada within a few hours on Tuesday.
Union Pacific spokesman Mark Davis says the first crash happened at about 12:15 a.m. near Galletti Way in the Reno-Sparks area. A train had been heading from Chicago to Lathrop, California when it struck the man. Sparks police said he's about 50-60 years old, although his identity hasn't yet been released.
The second crash happened at about 6:15 a.m. at the Logan Road crossing in Fernley. A train that was heading from Oakland, California to Chicago was involved.
Lyon County officials haven't yet released victim information.
