SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The former West Valley City police officer charged with manslaughter for shooting a 21-year-old woman during a drug investigation is due in court today. Shaun Cowley is charged with manslaughter in the 2012 shooting death of Danielle Willard as she backed her car out of an apartment complex parking spot. He has said his life was in danger.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah will begin issuing registration cards today for its limited medical marijuana program targeting adults and children with severe epilepsy. A new state law doesn't allow medical marijuana production or distribution but permits those meeting certain requirements to possess a marijuana extract oil. The oil is believed to help with severe seizures.
OGDEN, Utah (AP) — One person has been treated for minor smoke inhalation after a fire broke out yesterday at the offices of the Standard-Examiner newspaper in Ogden. Investigators are trying to determine the cause of the fire, which broke out in a baler room of the building's warehouse.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A federal report finds the agency tasked with approving mines and drills on public lands has hampered development by taking too long to review those proposals. The report says several such applications flow into the BLM's Vernal office. It says that reviewing such applications has not been high on the agency's to-do list and that supervisors don't track their progress.
