NEW YORK (AP) — Police in New York City say they have in custody the woman who allegedly abandoned her baby girl at a Manhattan subway station. Police are questioning the woman, but no charges have yet been filed. Authorities say the woman pushed the baby's stroller onto the platform when the northbound No. 1 train arrived at the Columbus Circle station and got onto the train, leaving the child behind. The baby is 6 to 7 months old and is in the custody of children's services.

SEATTLE (AP) — People already have started lining up at the few stores in Washington state that will be allowed to sell pot legally without a doctor's permission. Stores can open their doors at 8 o'clock this morning, local time. But 65-year-old Deb Greene showed up at Cannabis city before 3 p.m. yesterday. She's been camping out in front of the store with a chair, a sleeping bag, food, water and a book.

JOHANNESBURG (AP) — Final arguments begin August 7 in the murder trial of South African Olympic runner Oscar Pistorius. The defense closed its case today, saying it had finished calling witnesses. The defense argues that Pistorius accidentally shot and killed girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp, thinking she was an intruder behind a bathroom door. Prosecutors contend that Pistorius killed Steenkamp after an argument.

BANGKOK (AP) — Police in Thailand say a railway worker has confessed to raping and killing a 13-year-old girl on board an overnight train. The girl's body was found today near train tracks, three days after she went missing. Police say the railway worker has admitted throwing the girl's body out of a moving train. The girl had been traveling from southern Thailand to Bangkok with her two sisters in a sleeping coach.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama is having dinner tonight with a Colorado woman who got a raise after the president called for an increase in the minimum wage. The woman is identified only as Alex, and dinner is at the White House. The White House says Alex's boss voluntarily raised her pay the day after Obama's January State of the Union address, and the woman wrote the president to thank him.
