LINDON, Utah (AP) — Lindon police say a man accused of murdering his ex-wife's husband told them he wanted to shoot her instead.
According to jail documents, 59-year-old Fred Lee told police he went to four different homes in search of his former wife, Joy Sidwell.
He was arrested in the fatal shooting of her 42-year-old husband, Mike Sidwell, at one of the homes on Thursday night.
Lee's ex-wife was in Saratoga Springs at the time.
The Deseret News reports Joy Sidwell filed for a protective order against Lee in 2005 and a stalking complaint against him in 2007.
Police believe Lee was upset about a dispute involving visitation rights with his granddaughter. Lee and Joy Sidwell also argued over property.
Police believe Lee's young granddaughter was a witness to the slaying.
