LOS ANGELES (AP) — As Americans prepare for Fourth of July cookouts, there's a warning about contaminated chicken. The company's chicken has been linked to an outbreak of an antibiotic-resistant strain of salmonella that's made some 500 people sick over the past 16 months. The products may also be labeled FoodMaxx, Kroger, Safeway, Savemart, Valbest and Sunland. No fresh products currently in grocery stores are involved.

KILL DEVIL HILLS, N.C. (AP) — Hurricane Arthur is postponing or canceling many 4th of July events along the East Coast. Twenty-four-year-old Raymone Jackson appeared in court Thursday on a first-degree murder charge in Tuesday's death of Kamiya Gross.
