SEATTLE (AP) — Officials say a cruise ship returned to port in Seattle after a small engine room fire that was quickly extinguished. Holland America says there were no injuries among the passengers and crew of the Westerdam, which was carrying nearly 3,000 people. The Coast Guard inspected the ship and it's expected to sail today.
WASHINGTON (AP) — The alleged mastermind of the attacks on the U.S. mission in Benghazi, Libya, has begun what's expected to be a long legal process with a not guilty plea in federal court. The case of Ahmed Abu Khattala (hah-TAH'-lah) also represents a high-profile test of the Obama administration's goal of prosecuting terror suspects in civilian courts — even in the face of Republican critics.
WASHINGTON (AP) — A White House official says Congress will be getting a request tomorrow for more than $2 billion to help stem an influx of immigrants illegally crossing the U.S.-Mexico border. President Barack Obama also plans to ask that the Homeland Security Department be granted the authority to apply "fast track" procedures to the screening and deportation of all immigrant children traveling without their parents.
BAGHDAD (AP) — Iraq's fight against Sunni militants has gotten a boost with the arrival of five warplanes purchased from Russia. The Sukhoi (suh-KOY') 25 is designed to provide close air support to ground forces and to destroy mobile targets. Meanwhile, Iraqi forces backed by tanks and helicopter gunships are battling insurgents in Saddam Hussein's hometown of Tikrit in an attempt to reclaim it from the militants.
NEW DELHI (AP) — Police in southern India now say the death toll is at least 22 from a pair of weekend building collapses. Police detained two construction company directors in the collapse of an apartment building under construction killing at least 11 workers. Rescuers are still digging for the missing. The earlier collapse of an older building in New Delhi killed another 11 people.
