LAS VEGAS (AP) — Las Vegas police say the officer who fatally shot a knife-wielding woman who was stabbing another woman Wednesday at an apartment south of the Strip is a nine-year veteran of the metro police force. The department identified the officer Friday as 32-year-old Sergio Phillips. He and another officer saw her breaking into a room and stabbing the other woman.
RENO, Nev. (AP) — A murder trial for a man accused in a fatal shooting at the South Fork Indian Reservation has been postponed until October. Joshua Dooley was scheduled to stand trial this month in U.S. District Court in Reno in the killing of Jacob Tybo in South Fork in December. The Elko Daily Free Press reports prosecutors and public defenders agreed to the delay due to the large volume of evidence.
HENDERSON, Nev. (AP) — Las Vegas-area police are looking for a suspect in an armed robbery at a Henderson casino. Police say a man threatened employees with a handgun at My Casino on South Boulder Highway about 9:30 a.m. Friday. Henderson police say the robber is black, between 5-foot-6 and 5-foot-9, and weighs about 165 pounds. He was wearing dark pants, a light-colored, long-sleeved button-up shirt, red-framed sunglasses and a light-colored fedora hat.
RENO, Nev. (AP) — A cannibalistic bug that infested much of Nevada nine years ago may be making another assault. Experts are finding Mormon crickets marching through the desert about 100 miles north of Reno. Drought conditions helped drive a major Mormon cricket infestation that lasted from about 2000 to 2008.
