LAS VEGAS (AP) — Researchers at UNLV say nearly one-third of Nevada kindergarteners are overweight or obese. A report compiled by the Nevada Institute for Children's Research and Policy found 30 percent of the children in the study were overweight. That's a 1.4 percent increase from last school year.

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — The state Legislative Commission has finalized the ballot language for two measures Nevada voters will consider in November. Question 1 would create an intermediate court of appeals and Question 2 would remove the constitutional protections for the net proceeds of minerals tax paid by mining companies.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton is due to return to Las Vegas this fall as keynote speaker for a UNLV Foundation dinner at a Las Vegas Strip resort. The foundation says organizers expect more than 1,000 guests at the minimum $200-per-plate private fundraiser at the Bellagio. UNLV says Clinton's $225,000 speaking fee is being paid by private donors to her New York-based booking agent.

MOUNT CHARLESTON, Nev. (AP) — Fire prevention advocates, area residents and Clark County officials marked the anniversary of the start of a massive wildfire on a mountain near Las Vegas with a call for awareness of drought and effects of climate change. The event yesterday at the Resort on Mt. Charleston showcased woodland scars, lasting effects and steps toward recovery from the Carpenter 1 fire.
