SOUTH SALT LAKE, Utah (AP) — South Salt Lake police are investigating after a 40-year-old man was found shot dead in a vehicle and his 17-year-old passenger was wounded.

Police Sgt. Gary Keller says a "flood of calls" about a shooting came in a little before 8 p.m. Monday. The man was found dead inside a Chevy Avalanche, which was stopped in a lane near 200 East and Helm Avenue.

Authorities say a second abandoned vehicle was found in the road, though it's unclear whether it belongs to a witness or someone involved in the shooting.

Keller says two groups of people fled the area after the shooting, including one group of people who had been in the Avalanche with the victims.

The victims' names have not been released.
