HOUMA, La. (AP) — Terrebonne teachers struggling to equip their classrooms with essential supplies could get some relief this school year.
The Courier reports (http://bit.ly/1peb4ce ) the Terrebonne Foundation for Academic Excellence and a Houma insurance agency teamed up to help provide qualifying teachers with grants of up to $500 to help stock their classrooms.
Executive Director Yolanda Trahan says the foundation created the grant several years ago after taking into consideration the financial drain of buying supplies on a teacher's budget.
Any full-time educator working at a Terrebonne Parish public school can apply.
To be eligible, you must have three or fewer years of teaching experience or be teaching a new subject or grade level in the fall. The application deadline is Aug. 8.
