SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A former West Valley City police detective charged with manslaughter in the shooting death of an unarmed woman will be in court next month. Court records show 33-year-old Shaun Cowley will make an initial appearance on July 7 in state court. District Attorney Sim Gill announced yesterday that his office was charging Cowley for fatally shooting 21-year-old Danielle Willard in November 2012.
GARDEN CITY, Utah (AP) — The body of an apparent drowning victim has been pulled from the Bear Lake State Park marina in northeast Utah. Utah State Park rangers say the body of 37-year-old Justin Petersen of Layton was recovered in about 15 feet of water last night. Rangers say Petersen was last seen on the marina dock Wednesday night.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — For the second month in a row, Utah's unemployment rate fell and is now at its lowest rate in 5½ years. The latest jobless report released today shows May's seasonally adjusted jobless rate was 3.6 percent. The rate of unemployed Utah workers has been slowly falling to its pre-recession level of 3.4 percent in November 2008.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Authorities are preparing for the nudity and free-spiritedness they expect to take over a corner of national forest about 40 miles east of Salt Lake City. The first revelers at the annual Rainbow Family gathering are setting up camp this week in northern Utah. Attendance is expected to total about 10,000. Police say the group has already crashed a nearby wedding in search of food.
