EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Michigan State University has approved a 2.8 percent tuition increase for in-state, undergraduate students for the 2014-15 academic year.
The East Lansing school's Board of Trustees on Friday approved matching last year's increase, which the school says was the lowest since 2005, as part of a $1.2 billion general fund budget.
Tuition for in-state freshmen and sophomores will increase by 2.6 percent, while tuition for in-state juniors and seniors will rise by 2.9 percent.
The school says that state appropriations, which account for most of the balance of general fund revenues, increased 5.9 percent this year but remain at about half the inflation-adjusted amount per Michigan State University student as they were a decade earlier.
