LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) — Researchers are looking for 1,000 people to test a drug's effect on Alzheimer's disease at the University of Kentucky's Sanders-Brown Center on Aging.
The center says it is the only testing site in Kentucky and the only one within 200 miles of Lexington.
Participants will be 65 to 85 years old and will undergo tests to determine their eligibility.
The study will test an amyloid antibody that may prevent memory loss caused by Alzheimer's. The Sanders-Brown Center says amyloid is a protein normally produced in the brain. Scientists think a buildup of the protein may help cause Alzheimer's.
Dr. Gregory Jicha of the Sanders-Brown Center says the study is one of many Alzheimer's-related clinical trials being conducted there. For more information, contact Sarah Tarrant at (859) 323-1331.
