SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Authorities say a small plane that was missing out of Colorado crashed into a steep ravine in Utah, killing the pilot.
The San Juan County Sheriff's Office says in a news release that deputies found the plane Thursday afternoon in the La Sal Mountains in southeastern Utah.
Officials say the pilot, 62-year-old Miles Reece of Bayfield, Colorado, was killed on impact. No other passengers were on the plane.
Reece left Durango, Colorado on his way to the backcountry of Idaho. A friend was accompanying him on the trip, flying another plane.
The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the crash.
