SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A federal judge has issued a split ruling on Utah's controversial immigration law, upholding one key measure but striking down several others. The ruling today upheld a key provision requiring authorities to check the immigration status of some arrestees. But he struck down a provision that allows warrantless arrests based solely on suspicion of immigration status.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Ancestry.com says the popular genealogy site was offline much of yesterday after being hacked. Officials at the Provo-based company say hackers crashed the site's servers Monday afternoon. KSL reports chief technology officer Scott Sorensen said no data was compromised and the company is working to prevent similar attacks in the future.
FARMINGTON, Utah (AP) — A 16-year-old Farmington boy has reached a plea deal with prosecutors in the stabbing deaths of his 10-year-old and 4-year-old brothers. Under the deal, Aza Vidinhar will be in juvenile detention until he turns 21 and then serve a sentence of 15 years to life in an adult jail. Vidinhar's brothers were found stabbed to death in May 2013.
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — An environmental group wants federal wildlife managers to revise a decades-old recovery plan for grizzly bears to ensure the animal's return to more areas of the West. The Center for Biological Diversity filed its petition today with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, identifying land in Utah as part of the suitable habitat for the bears.
