BERLIN (AP) — German prosecutors say they've dropped their appeal against the acquittal of former President Christian Wulff on corruption charges.
The Lower Saxony prosecutors' office said Friday they had notified the court Thursday of their decision.
The move means Wulff's February acquittal is now legally binding.
Wulff always denied any wrongdoing but resigned in 2012 amid a barrage of corruption allegations stemming from his time as governor of Lower Saxony before he became president in 2010.
After an investigation, prosecutors charged him with accepting some 720 euros ($975) in hotel and entertainment costs from a German film producer. They alleged Wulff then helped the producer raise support for a film project.
Wulff rejected an offer to settle his case and chose to go to trial to clear his name.
