WASHINGTON (AP) — Officials say Bowe Bergdahl enlisted in the Coast Guard in January 2006 but left after 26 days in basic training. A Coast Guard says Bergdahl received a, quote, "uncharacterized discharge" on Feb. 25, 2006. That is a form of discharge for recruits who have served fewer than 180 days. The spokesman said he couldn't discuss details about Bergdahl's discharge, for privacy reasons.
HAILEY, Idaho (AP) — An Idaho county commissioner is telling reporters and outsiders to leave the town of Haley and leave Bowe Berghdal's family alone. The Times-News reports that Blaine County Commissioner Larry Schoen said people should stop attacking Bergdahl, his family and the people of Hailey for standing by him.
IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (AP) — Researchers in eastern Idaho plan to use drones to get high-resolution digital images of sagebrush habitats. Researchers tell the Post Register that the work is also part of a study on Pygmy rabbits. University of Idaho ecology professor Janet Rachlow says the aerial survey work starting Sunday will be used for land management and management of wildlife populations.
RIGGINS, Idaho (AP) — Three of four rafters flipped into the Salmon River at Lake Creek Rapids made it back to the boat but a fourth rafter swept downstream died. The Idaho County Sheriff's Office says boaters pulled the man from the water just before noon yesterday about a mile downstream from the rapids and began CPR. His name hasn't been released.
