HENDERSON, Nev. (AP) — A man is dead and a police officer is wounded after a pre-dawn shootout in a residential neighborhood in Henderson.
Police spokeswoman Kathleen Richards says the officer is in stable condition at Sunrise Hospital & Medical Center after the 4 a.m. Wednesday gunfire at a home on Flat Plains Avenue.
The officer's wound wasn't described as life-threatening. He wasn't immediately identified.
Richards says the assailant was shot and killed after opening fire on officers responding to reports of gunfire in a neighborhood near Horizon Ridge Parkway and Gibson Road.
Police are investigating what prompted the shooting.
Richards says there's no immediate indication it had any connection with a deadly shooting Sunday in Las Vegas that left two police officers, a good Samaritan and two assailants dead in a Wal-Mart store.
