MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Wisconsin Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen is seeking an emergency order in federal court to stop more same-sex marriage licenses from being issued after a federal judge struck down the state's ban. Clerks in Madison and Milwaukee began issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples shortly after 5 p.m. Friday, a little over an hour after the judge released her ruling. Van Hollen says the ruling does not clear the way for licenses to be issued.
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — The FBI is revealing more about a California man already charged with possessing explosive material at his San Francisco apartment. Investigators say Ryan Chamberlain also used an anonymous, Internet-based marketplace to try to buy biological agents and lethal toxins and that witnesses report shipping pure nicotine and abrin, a poison, to the suspect.
DOVER, Del. (AP) — A storm may be brewing over Delaware's leaning bridge. A businessman says he told state transportation officials nearly two months ago something was wrong with the major highway bridge carrying Interstate 495. It's raising more questions about why state officials waited until this week to inspect the span and close it after discovering tilting supporting columns.
EDINBURGH, Ind. (AP) — The search for a teenager missing in a swimming accident has been suspended until daylight in southern Indiana where two others are in critical condition. The accident happened when a teenage girl was swept over the Edinburgh dam at the Big Blue River and became trapped. The Indiana Department of Natural Resources says four other teens who were swimming with her attempted a rescue but were overcome by the force of the water, which was at flood stage.
KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — A provincial official says flooding in northern Afghanistan has claimed more than 50 lives and forced thousands to flee their homes. Authorities say that 54 bodies have been recovered, including the remains of women and children, but many others are still missing and the death toll could climb.
