SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A federal plan to cut pollution blamed for global warming by 2030 is winning cheers from environmental advocates, but a key Utah official questions whether it can be executed. The plan would require Utah, which relies on coal for 80 percent of its electricity, to cut coal-generated emissions by nearly as much. A Utah spokesman of the Sierra Club said he anticipates state officials harnessing more solar power.
SOUTH OGDEN, Utah (AP) — South Ogden police have identified the 93-year-old man killed in a two-car crash that injured three other people. Authorities say Russell Sylvester died on scene after the Saturn he was driving crashed into another car Sunday. KSL-TV reports the 92-year-old Vivian Sylvester, who was a passenger in the Saturn, was critically injured.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Police say they've arrested an 18-year-old woman who tried to fight an officer and spoke of guns during a traffic stop over the weekend. Salt Lake City police say the confrontation happened at about 3 a.m. Sunday after a sergeant pulled over a vehicle that was driving the wrong way. Other officers arrived and helped take the woman into custody.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The U.S. Mint is gearing up to release a commemorative quarter featuring Arches National Park. An official launch ceremony is scheduled for Friday in Moab. The coin features the 65-foot-tall Delicate Arch, which is one of the most recognizable landmarks in the state.
