SEATTLE (AP) — Mount Rainier National Park officials say six climbers are presumed dead after helicopters detected pings from emergency beacons buried in the snow and a debris field that may indicate an avalanche. A Park spokeswoman tells KOMO-TV there's no way the group, last heard from on Wednesday, could have survived. The Seattle Times says air and ground searches have been suspended.
WASHINGTON (AP) — A U.S. soldier who's been held for nearly five years by militants in Afghanistan is a free man tonight. Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl is being exchanged for five Afghan detainees from the U.S. prison at Guantanamo. The company, Aqua Quest International, says they were working on a project to aid local lobster divers.
PHOENIX (AP) — A Marine veteran who's been in a Mexico prison on weapons charges since the end of March is doing well and seems in good spirits. Tahmooressi says he wound up a border-crossing by mistake and had three legally owned guns in his truck.
WASHINGTON (AP) — The latest report about systemic problems in the Department of Veterans Affairs health system is not the first independent review that documented long wait times for some patients. Eleven years ago, a task force established by President George W. Bush said at least 236,000 veterans were on a waiting list of six months or more for a first appointment or an initial follow-up.
