SPARKS, Nev. (AP) — The Sparks City Council has approved changes in zoning ordinances to allow medical marijuana dispensaries to operate within the city limits for the first time.
The council approved the changes on a 3-2 vote on Tuesday after dropping a requirement that each dispensary obtain a special-use permit subject to public comment. As a result, applicants will be subject only to an administrative review.
The Reno Gazette-Journal reports (http://tinyurl.com/jwmtuew) council members Julia Ratti and Mike Carrigan cast the dissenting votes.
A total of 66 dispensaries will be allowed throughout Nevada, including 10 in Washoe County, which earlier approved rules governing their operation in unincorporated areas.
The two planned in Sparks must operate in the commercial-industrial area on the south edge of town.
