ST. GEORGE, Utah (AP) — Federal officials are investigating what went wrong in a plane crash that killed a 75-year-old flight instructor and his adult student on a clear day in southwestern Utah.
Gary Hawes and 38-year-old co-pilot Brad Brian were flying the small plane earlier this month near Santa Clara, about 11 miles outside St. George.
Tom Little of the National Transportation Safety Board tells the Spectrum of St. George (http://bit.ly/TUG8zQ) investigators don't know what caused the crash or whether the pilot sent emergency signals.
Little says it could take up to a year for officials release those details or recommend new safety rules for small planes.
Suzan Hawes earlier this month told the Spectrum her husband was a pilot in the Vietnam War.
St. George-based Above View Aviation owned the two-seat Cessna plane.
