GOLETA, Calif. (AP) — Thousands of students at the University of California, Santa Barbara nave gathered to mourn six fellow students who were killed in a deadly weekend rampage. The attacker died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot. UC President Janet Napolitano urged that the six be remembered for what they did in their brief lives and said that "as long as we hold them in our hearts, they are not gone." Classes were canceled today.

MISSION VIEJO, Calif. (AP) — Southern California authorities in Orange County say four killings in a suburban home are a murder-suicide. The bodies of two male and two female victims were discovered in the home in Mission Viejo today. Officials have not released the names, relationships or causes of death of any of the victims.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama's plan to draw down U.S. troop levels in Afghanistan has drawn criticism from three Senate Republicans. The president said today that about 10,000 troops will remain after this year and that virtually all will be withdrawn by 2016. Sens. John McCain, Lindsey Graham and Kelly Ayotte (AY'-aht) charge that setting a timetable is "a monumental mistake." The president's plan mirrors Pentagon recommendations.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Senior White House officials say President Barack Obama has asked his Homeland Security chief to hold off on completing a review of U.S. deportation policies until the end of the summer. The purpose of the pause is to allow time for Congress to act on immigration this year. Obama in March directed the government to examine whether deportation practices can be made more humane.

MARIPOSA, Calif. (AP) — Officials say three firefighters have been injured in a Central California wildfire that has burned through more than 2 square miles in two days. An inmate firefighter was cut by a chain saw. The other two injuries are described as minor. The fire is spreading through dry brush in the steep foothills of Mariposa County east of Lake McClure.
