BOISE, Idaho (AP) — After securing a surprise victory in Idaho's Republican primary, Sherri Ybarra now moves up to face Democratic challenger and political veteran Jana Jones in the race for Idaho's top education post. Unlike the three GOP newcomers Ybarra competed against in the May primary, Ybarra's opponent in November's general election comes with statewide name recognition and has already significantly outraised and outspent her Republican contender.
BOISE, Idaho (AP) — A 21-year-old Boise man has been arrested on accusations he used the mail to traffic marijuana. Boise police say they arrested Andrew Ralston following an investigation with the U.S. Postal Inspectors. Authorities say a search of Ralston's home resulted in finding additional marijuana and other illegal drugs.
MOSCOW, Idaho (AP) — New University of Idaho President Chuck Staben is confident the university offers a great value and education to its students and is ready to embrace the 60 percent post-secondary credential goal set forth by state leaders. Staben says the UI looks to recruit an additional 5,000 during the next few years. Staben tells the Moscow-Pullman Daily News that the university needs to work on recruiting more efficiently across the state, particularly in the markets in southern and southeastern Idaho.
JACKSON, Wyo. (AP) — Federal biologists will begin trapping and tagging grizzly bears in Grand Teton National Park this coming week. The effort by the Interagency Grizzly Bear Study Team is aimed at keeping tabs on the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem's grizzlies. The grizzly trapping in the Tetons will continue until mid-October.
