BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Idaho is among several states refusing to comply with a federal law designed to reduce sexual assaults in prison, with governors criticizing the Prison Rape Elimination Act as an unfunded mandate that replaces good intentions with red tape. Governors were required to certify by May 15 that their states either met the standards, or to promise that they were actively working toward that goal.

KETCHUM, Idaho (AP) — The Ketchum City Council in central Idaho has approved a resolution supporting a proposal to designate a national monument in the Boulder-White Clouds. The Idaho Mountain Express reports the council voted 3-0 this week to back a plan to create a monument. The Idaho Conservation League, Wilderness Society and others want the Obama administration to create a 591,905-acre national monument using the Antiquities Act.

HAILEY, Idaho (AP) — Runway work has been completed at an airport that serves Ketchum and Sun Valley. The work involved moving a taxiway 70 feet away from the Friedman Memorial Airport runway. Workers shut down the runway on April 22 as part of a $34 million project intended to meet Federal Aviation Administration safety requirements.

POCATELLO, Idaho (AP) — A 14-year-old Idaho boy riding a motorcycle died after colliding with an all-terrain vehicle south of Pocatello. Idaho State Police say Jesse Sistrunk of Pocatello lost control of his 2014 Honda motorbike about 7 p.m. Thursday while traveling west on Blackrock Canyon Road. Police say he collided with a 2006 Polaris ATV driven by 58-year-old Sharon Beyeler of American Falls. Beyeler was not injured.
