RED BLUFF, Calif. (AP) — Authorities say one of the two men shot on a Northern California trail during a robbery is expected to recover but the other was pronounced dead at the scene. The dead man is identified as 69-year-old Francis "Pat" Gregory, 69, of West Tisbury, Massachusetts. Police say the robber shot the men after taking their money and belongings. They were found hours later by another hiker.
MONROEVILLE, Pa. (AP) — The family of a high school stabbing victim is asking for privacy as the 15-year-old continues his recovery. Franklin Regional High School sophomore Greg Keener is the last of the students hospitalized following a stabbing rampage at a western Pennsylvania high school to be released from the hospital. Keener was one of 20 students wounded by a classmate in April.
NEW YORK (AP) — The CDC says the risk for contracting a mysterious Middle East virus remains low in the U.S. despite what appears to be the first time that it has spread from one person to another in the United States. Officials say an Illinois man probably picked up an infection from an Indiana man who earlier this month became the first U.S. case of Middle East Respiratory Syndrome, or MERS. Saudi Arabia has been at the center of an outbreak of MERS.
WASHINGTON (AP) — People familiar with the process say some Cabinet shuffling is in the works for President Barack Obama. Sources say he plans to nominate Housing Secretary Shaun Donovan to be budget director and is considering San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro to succeed Donovan at HUD.
BANDA ACEH, Indonesia (AP) — An earthquake in Indonesia panicked residents on Sumatra Island be no casualties have been reported yet. The U.S. Geological Survey says the strong and shallow undersea earthquake registered a 6.2-magnitude. Indonesia's Meteorology and Geophysics Agency put the preliminary magnitude at 6.4 and said it had no potential to trigger a tsunami.
